What Should I Charge?

One of the very first things that a new Internet Marketer will ask is what amount he or she should charge for the products or services that he or she is offering. This is particularly a hot topic amongst writers who are offering content and copy creation services to those who need them. Some writers feel that they should merely charge the rates clients want to pay. This is usually very difficult for people who are constantly told that only the lowest rates possible are fair. If you have been trying to figure out how much to charge for what you have to provide, here is the way to figure it out.

First you have to create a list of all of your regular expenses. This includes how much you pay a month in rent or toward your mortgage, your utility bills, how much you spend on food, your cell phone bill, credit card payments, etc. Make sure you include the charge of doing fun things like going out to dinner once in a while or cash for a few frivolous purchases when you go shopping. The value of these things has to be multiplied by twelve. This is the sum of money you will want to put in the bank every year. This is absolutely different than the amount of cash that you should earn.

To determine how much money you need to earn, take the amount of money you have to put in your bank account and then add at least forty percent. This will give you enough money for covering taxes and a variety of fees--after all, the money that you earn online will count as income--it needs to be reported to the IRS and taxes need to be paid on it. This added forty percent should cover the price tag on social security taxes, Medicare, etc. The amount you see in front of you, expenditures plus forty percent, is what amount you have to earn.

You're likely planning on working a minimum of forty hours per week. This is a good amount to prepare for but you should realize that only about half of that time will be carrying out actual work for clients. The remaining portion of the time you will end up doing paperwork, marketing, etc. Why is this important? Because it will affect the total amount that you need to plan on charging. Your primary instinct may be to take the amount of money you will want to earn then divide it by fifty two then take that number and divide it by forty (to come up with an hourly rate). Instead, what you need to do is divide the number by the quantity of weeks you think you will be working and divide that number by twenty.

Now that you know what amount of money you need to charge per hour, from here just how much you charge for a project is simple to figure out. How long does one believe it will take you to write an article or a sales page? Take the time it is going to take you to finish a task and multiply it by your hourly rate. This is the amount that you should be charging for your various jobs.
